SNMP: Encoding Invalid MIB Root


This protocol anomaly triggers when it detects a SNMP message with an Object ID that has a invalid MIB root. SNMP Object IDs should begin with 1.3.6.1, which stands for "Internet."

Extended Description

This condition could indicate a network configuration error, or implementation error. It could also indicate that malicious activity, involving the intentional injection of malformed SNMP packets, is underway.
