HTTP: Microsoft Office Excel Crafted SST Record Code Execution


This signature detects attempts to exploit a known vulnerability in Microsoft Office Excel. The vulnerability is due to improper parsing of an Excel file that includes a malformed object .A successful attack can lead to memory corruption and arbitrary code execution.

Extended Description

Microsoft Excel is prone to a remote code-execution vulnerability. Attackers may exploit this issue by enticing victims into opening a maliciously crafted Excel file. Successful exploits may allow attackers to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running the application. Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial-of-service condition.
