This signature detects attempts to exploit a known vulnerability in HP Photosmart All-in-One Magview Module. An attacker can create malicious Web pages containing dangerous ActiveX Calls, which if accessed by a victim, allows the attacker to overwrite files on the victim's browsing computer.
Hewlett Packard 'hpqvwocx.dll' ActiveX control library is prone to a stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to properly check boundaries on user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized memory buffer. Successfully exploiting this issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application using the ActiveX control (typically Internet Explorer). Failed exploit attempts likely result in denial-of-service conditions. This issue affects 'hpqvwocx' 1.0.0.309; other versions may also be affected.
