This signature detects attempts to use unsafe ActiveX controls in Watchfire AppScan. An attacker can create a malicious Web site containing Web pages with dangerous ActiveX controls, which if accessed by a victim, allows the attacker to gain control of the victim's client computer.
Watchfire AppScan ActiveX Control is prone to multiple vulnerabilities that allow attackers to overwrite arbitrary files. An attacker can exploit these issues by enticing an unsuspecting victim to view a malicious HTML page. Successfully exploiting these issues will allow the attacker to corrupt and overwrite arbitrary files on the victim's computer in the context of the vulnerable application using the ActiveX control (typically Internet Explorer). Watchfire AppScan 7.0 is vulnerable to this issue; other versions may also be affected. NOTE: This BID is being retired. The ActiveX controls are not marked 'safe-for-scripting'.
