This signature detects attempts to use unsafe ActiveX controls in ISIS Papyrus AFP Viewer. An attacker can create a malicious Web site containing Web pages with dangerous ActiveX controls, which if accessed by a victim, allows the attacker to gain control of the victim's client browser.
The ISIS Papyrus AFP Viewer ActiveX Control is prone to multiple buffer-overflow vulnerabilities. An attacker can exploit these issues by enticing a victim to view a malicious webpage. Successful exploits will allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code within the context of the application that uses the ActiveX control (typically Internet Explorer). Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial-of-service condition. ISIS Papyrus AFP Viewer 7.1.1.10150 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.
