This signature detects attempts to use unsafe ActiveX controls in Microsoft Internet Explorer. An attacker can create a malicious Web site containing Web pages with dangerous ActiveX controls, which if accessed by a victim, allows the attacker to gain control of the victim's client browser.
eCentrex VOIP Client ActiveX control is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied data. Successfully exploiting this issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application using the ActiveX control (typically Internet Explorer). Failed exploit attempts likely result in denial-of-service conditions. eCentrex VOIP Client ActiveX control 2.0.1 is vulnerable to this issue; other versions may also be affected.
