This signature detects attempts to use unsafe ActiveX controls against Dart Communications PowerTCP Service. An attacker can create a malicious Web site containing Web pages with dangerous ActiveX controls, which if accessed by a victim, allows the attacker to gain control of the victim's client browser.
Dart Communications PowerTCP Service control is prone to multiple buffer-overflow vulnerabilities because the application fails to bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer. Successfully exploiting these issues allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application using the ActiveX control (typically Internet Explorer). Failed exploit attempts likely result in denial-of-service conditions. These issues affect PowerTCP Service 3.1.3.3; other versions may also be affected.
