This signature detects attempts to exploit a known heap buffer overflow vulnerability in SAP Crystal Reports PrintControl.dll ActiveX Control. It is due to a boundary error when parsing the ServerResourceVersion property. A remote attacker can leverage this by enticing a target user to open a malicious Web page. A successful attack allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the security context of the logged in user. An unsuccessful attack can cause an abnormal termination of the affected browser.
SAP Crystal Reports is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because the application fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied data. The issue affects the 'CrystalReports12.CrystalPrintControl.1' ActiveX control. Successful exploits will allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application (typically Internet Explorer) using the ActiveX control. Failed exploit attempts will likely result in denial-of-service conditions. Crystal Reports 2008 SP3 Fix Pack 3.2 Print ActiveX (12.3.2.753) is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.
