This signature detects attempts to exploit a known vulnerability in the Microsoft IIS FastCGI Module. A successful attack can lead to a buffer overflow and arbitrary remote code execution within the context of the server. Due to the nature of the issue, this signature can be false positive prone; only apply if using FastCGI. The recommended action is not set by default, due to the risk of false positives. If FastCGI is present and un-patched, the action should be drop.
Microsoft IIS is prone to a remote buffer-overflow vulnerability. An attacker can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code within the context of the affected application. Failed exploit attempts will result in a denial-of-service condition. This issue affects IIS 7.5 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
