This signature detects attempts to exploit a known vulnerability in the Borland InterBase Database Message Handler. A successful attack can lead to a buffer overflow and arbitrary remote code execution within the context of the server.
Borland InterBase is prone to a remote stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerability because it fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied data. Attackers can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application. Failed attacks will likely cause denial-of-service conditions. Please note that if the application runs as a Windows service, successful attacks will allow arbitrary code to run with SYSTEM-level privileges. This will lead to a complete compromise of an affected computer. The issue affects Borland InterBase 2007 SP2; other versions may also be vulnerable.
